The EU project initiated by BARU to reduce flood and water scarcity risks has begun

The project prepared by Bartın University (BARU) within the scope of the European Union (EU) IPA II Framework Agreement aims to minimize the risks of flooding and water scarcity in Bartın.

The opening meeting of the "Climate Change Adaptation Strategies: Reducing Flood and Water Scarcity Risks in Bartın" (BIRUS) Project prepared by Bartın University (BARU) under the European Union (EU) IPA II Framework Agreement, financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, was held. The project aims to work towards minimizing the effects of climate change, which are increasingly being felt globally, especially in Bartın, where flooding and water scarcity problems have been experienced simultaneously and declared as disaster areas consecutively over the past two years, due to climate change. The project, which includes Bartın Governorate Provincial Administration and Bartın Municipality among its partners under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change, will last for 18 months.

Speaking at the opening meeting of the project, Bartın Governor Dr. Nurtaç Arslan emphasized the importance of the project for Bartın, which experiences flood and water scarcity problems simultaneously due to climate change.

Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, the Rector of BARU, who delivered the opening speech of the program, expressed his pleasure to be together with the project partners at the opening meeting of an important project that will bring a new breath to the region's and the country's strategies for combating climate change, specifically for Bartın province.
