With a TÜBİTAK–Slovenia supported project, Bartın University (BARÜ) will develop effective and sustainable methods to enhance fire safety in wooden structures.

The project, prepared by Prof. Hüseyin Sivrikaya from the Department of Forest Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Forestry, has been approved for support under the 2508 TÜBİTAK – Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) Bilateral Cooperation Support Program. Titled “Enhancing the Fire Performance of Wooden Structures Through Charring and Sustainable Bio-Based Fire Retardant Treatments,” the study was selected as one of eight international projects to receive funding.

Led in Turkey by Prof. Hüseyin Sivrikaya and in Slovenia by Dr. Laetitia Sarah Marrot from the National Institute of Building and Civil Engineering, the project aims to improve the fire resistance of wooden structures. Through a series of analytical, thermal, and fire performance tests, the team will develop environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions.
