Bartın University (BARU) and the Zonguldak Regional Directorate of Forestry signed an “Education, Scientific Research and Practical Cooperation Protocol” aimed at enhancing students’ environmental and forestry awareness.
Bartın University (BARU) and the Zonguldak Regional Directorate of Forestry signed an “Education, Scientific Research and Practical Cooperation Protocol” with the aim of introducing young people to forestry activities and strengthening university-public institution cooperation. The protocol was signed at the Rectorate Senate Hall by BARU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya and Halil Oflu, Regional Director of Forestry in Zonguldak.
Students to gain first-hand experience of forestry activities
Under the protocol, students will be encouraged to participate in afforestation activities, training sessions and seminars, technical field trips, nature walks, social responsibility projects, and awareness-raising activities focused on forest conservation. Experts from the Zonguldak Regional Directorate of Forestry will provide students with training on forest fires, biodiversity, afforestation techniques, and nature conservation. Technical visits will also be organized to maintenance sites, forest nurseries, fire lookout towers, forest fire response facilities, forest depots, forest parks, and ecotourism areas, enabling students to observe forestry practices on site and gain first-hand knowledge of forestry operations.
Forestry Club to be established
In line with the protocol, plans are also underway to establish a Forestry Club at BARU to enhance students’ awareness of the environment, nature, and forests. Through the club, efforts will be made to foster an appreciation for forests and raise awareness of forest conservation and development as well as the prevention and control of forest fires.
Noting that the activities to be carried out under the protocol will provide students with the opportunity to become closely acquainted with forestry practices, Rector Akkaya stated that the cooperation would make a significant contribution to enhancing awareness of nature and forests.
