Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet AKKAYA. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya was appointed Rector of Bartin University (BARU) by Presidential Decree No. 2025/181 dated May 17, 2025.

Akkaya completed his undergraduate education in Turkish Language Teaching at the Faculty of Education of Firat University in 2005. He received his second bachelor's degree from the Department of Public Administration at Anadolu University in 2008.

He earned a master's degree in Turkish Language Education from Firat University in 2008 and completed his doctoral studies at Selcuk University in 2011.

Prof. Dr. Akkaya began his professional career as a Turkish Language Teacher in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education between 2005 and 2012. In 2012, he joined academia as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Turkish Language Education at Adiyaman University. At the same university, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014 and to Full Professor in 2021.

Throughout his academic career, Prof. Dr. Akkaya has also held a number of significant administrative positions. Between 2013 and 2025, he served as the Head of the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education. From 2014 to 2019, he was the Founding Director of the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center (TOMER) at Adiyaman University, which offered Turkish preparatory programs for international students.

During this period, he also served as a consultant to various national and international non-governmental organizations and organized numerous training programs, particularly focusing on the preparation of Turkish language teachers for Syrians. In addition, he served as the Director of the Continuing Education Center at Adiyaman University from 2018 to 2023.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya conducts research in the fields of artificial intelligence and language applications within the context of contemporary technologies. He is proficient in English and has an intermediate command of Arabic. He is married and has two children.
