Biography

Orhan Uzun was born on October 18, 1965 in Trabzon. He graduated from Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Education Department of Physics Teaching, in 1990. He received a masters degree from Yüzüncü Yıl University in the Department of Physics, in 1993, and did his doctorate in Gazi University in the Department of Physical Education, in 1998.

After working as a physics teacher in Urfa – Siverek İmam Hatip High School for a short time in 1991, he became a research assistant in Yüzüncü Yıl University in 1992. In Gaziosmanpaşa University he respectively assumed the titles of Doctor, Assoc. Prof, Asst. Prof and Professor in 1998, 1999, 2005 and 2010.

He worked as a visiting research assistant in Sheffield University, in England during his doctorate, and in Stanford University and in Silicon Valley, in the USA after he completed his doctorate.

Professor Doctor Orhan Uzun, who directed 5 doctoral dissertation and 6 master’s thesis up to the present, served as a researcher and executive in 18 R&D projects, which were supported by universities, the SPO, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.

Besides taking charge in the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and in some ministries as project evaluator, arbitrator and panelist, UZUN also worked in the arbitration of  tens of journals, which published scientific research articles. Currently he serves in the Board of Editors of two scientific journals.

Professor Doctor Orhan UZUN has made researches on superconductivity, hydrogen storage and smart and nanostructured materials.183 research articles and papers of him, including 57 science citation index expanded, has been published until today, and he has been invited to many local and international conferences as a speaker.

He has been working at Bülent Ecevit University since 2012. During this time, he was in charge of administration as dean and vice rector. Married and father of three children, Professor UZUN has been serving as the Director of Higher Education Quality Board since 2015. On April 18, 2017 he was appointed to the Rector of Bartın University by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
