Students from Bartın University (BARU) have received two awards for their project ideas aimed at promoting sustainability through renewable energy production in the field of transportation.

The award ceremony of the second edition of the “Accessible and Connected Türkiye 2053 Interuniversity R&D Idea Competition,” organized by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure’s Research Center for Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication Studies (UDHAM), was recently held. Two projects from BARU students received honorable mention awards in the competition, in which 115 project ideas by 205 students from 62 different universities were evaluated.

In the “Highway” category, the project developed by Sümeyra Çelik and Emre Kaya under the supervision of Dr. Halil Karlı aims to generate renewable energy in urban areas with heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic by converting kinetic energy into electricity.

In the “Railway” category, the project proposed by Dursun Berkay Esen, Emrullah Çoban, and İsa Karamazak under the supervision of Dr. Yunus Emre Topcu aims to reduce the use of electrical energy in railway systems. This innovative approach in sustainable and green energy focuses on generating electricity from the mechanical pressure and vibrations produced during train movements.
