With its project supported by the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), Bartın University (BARÜ) seeks to conduct training processes aimed at promoting salep plant cultivation while ensuring the preservation of the species.

The results of the 2024 "Anadoludakiler Program," coordinated by the General Directorate of Development Agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Technology, have been announced. Among the projects evaluated to preserve local production culture, support innovative initiatives, and ensure the sustainability of local development, the project led by Dr. Cevdet Gümüş from the Plant and Animal Production Department at Bartın University Vocational School was approved for support.

The project, titled “Sustainable Salep Production,” aims to promote the active economic and social participation of disadvantaged groups. As part of the project, a tissue culture laboratory will be established to introduce agricultural innovations. Salep seedlings will be produced from the seeds of endangered salep orchids that naturally grow in Bartın, ensuring the conservation of these orchid species and their transmission to future generations through new cultivation techniques.

These efforts will be carried out in collaboration with the Bartın Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
