BARÜ Awarded the "Contribution to Local Development" Prize

Bartın University (BARÜ) received the "Contribution to Local Development Award" from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a ceremony held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center.
The opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 Academic Year, attended by President Erdoğan, took place at the Presidential Complex. Alongside BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, prominent scientists such as Prof. Dr. Ramazan Yılmaz and Prof. Dr. Osman Gençel, as well as Dr. Instructor Şeyma Çağlar Özhan, and BARÜ students Yaren Yerlikaya, Metehan Şahin, Selim Doğukan Yolcu, and Taha Enes Baykurt were present.
BARÜ's Development-Focused Strategy Yields Awards
At this traditional annual ceremony, the "YÖK Superior Achievement Awards" were also presented to encourage scientific research and practices. In this context, the project titled "Smart Electronic Fence," initiated by İlker Köklü, Chairman of the Board of TEKNO-MAR, and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Alaybeyoğlu from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at BARÜ's Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Design, was awarded the "Contribution to Local Development" prize in the institutional category. The award was presented by President Erdoğan to Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Alaybeyoğlu.

In his speech at the ceremony, President Erdoğan emphasized that improving the Turkish education system at every level, from preschool to higher education, is a fundamental priority. He stated, "We have made improving the Turkish education system at every stage, from preschool to higher education, our top priority. Looking back, we have successfully implemented many reforms that seemed impossible."

YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar spoke about the strategic goals in higher education, stating, "We have five strategic goals: Accessibility, Quality and Productivity, Research and Innovation, Internationalization, and Lifelong Learning and Employment. In this context, we carry out innovative projects each year. We are working to make Turkey a research country with a global impact."

Highlighting the successes achieved through the scientific ecosystem established at the university, BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun remarked, "We are proud that our university has been recognized with the 'Contribution to Local Development' award among the YÖK Superior Achievement Awards, which encourage original, innovative, and high-quality scientific work. We see this award, received from our president, as a significant indicator of the importance given to education and science. I would like to thank all stakeholders, especially Assoc. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alaybeyoğlu from BARÜ expressed his happiness about the award, stating, "We carry out our work within the project development ecosystem created with the understanding of a 'Producing University.' We strive to contribute to the commercial and economic activities in the region by integrating digitalization, smart technologies, and Internet of Things applications into the specialized field of our university for regional development."
