With the support of TÜBİTAK, Bartın University (BARÜ) is conducting a project to evaluate the effects of dual-task training in individuals with Type 2 diabetes and integrate it into physiotherapy practices.

The project, led by Lecturer Gizem Mermerkaya from BARÜ’s Physiotherapy Program at the Vocational School of Health Services and supervised by Prof. Dr. Melda Sağlam from Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, has been granted funding under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program.

Titled "The Effects of Dual-Task Training on Balance, Exercise Capacity, Cognitive Function, and Quality of Life in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus," the doctoral thesis project aims to develop new treatment methods for Type 2 diabetes, a condition that is increasingly prevalent and causes serious health issues. The research will explore innovative approaches to address balance disorders and gait impairments, which negatively impact the quality of life in individuals with Type 2 diabetes.

The project also aims to incorporate dual-task training into alternative physiotherapy rehabilitation processes. Faculty members from Karabük University’s Faculty of Medicine, including Assoc. Prof. Nurhayat Özkan Sevencan, Assoc. Prof. Hatice Gülşah Karataş, and Dr. İlke Erbay, will contribute as researchers.
