Bartın University (BARU) has received support from the British Council for its wastewater filtration system project, which will be developed using innovative new technologies.

Celebrating its 16th anniversary with another significant project milestone, BARU is focusing on developing new technologies to remove antibiotic residues from wastewater—thereby preventing the increase of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. To achieve this, the university has partnered with Kingston University in the United Kingdom. The collaborative project, presented under the theme “Research and Innovations for Healthy People, Animals, and Plants – for Safe and Healthy Societies,” was recognized as worthy of support by the British Council.

The project is led in Turkiye by Dr. Mustafa Nakipoğlu, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at BARU’s Faculty of Science. Titled “Efficient Removal of Antibiotic Residues from Aqua Environment to Tackle the Antimicrobial Resistance Crisis in Turkey,” the project has been allocated a budget of 100,000 British Pounds. Conducted under the “International Science Partnerships Fund-Research Collaborations Grant”—a joint initiative by TÜBİTAK and the British Council to enhance scientific cooperation between Türkiye and the United Kingdom—the project is scheduled for completion within 24 months.
