11 Mayıs 2026
In the international symposium hosted by Bartın University (BARÜ), which brought together researchers from Türkiye and Azerbaijan, current information technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and smart library systems, were evaluated.

The “6th International Information and Records Management Student Symposium,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev, was organized in cooperation with the Bartın University (BARÜ) Department of Information and Records Management and the Baku State University Faculty of Information and Records Management. At the symposium, held with the theme “Changing Information Technologies and Electronic Resources,” current developments in the field of information and records management were addressed from multiple perspectives.

The symposium program began with the opening of the “Poster Exhibition on New Generation Library Services” in the foyer of the BARÜ Library Conference Hall. Following the exhibition, the opening speeches of the program were delivered by BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya, Dean of the BARÜ Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Aslı Yazıcı, Dean of the Baku State University Faculty of Information and Records Management Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alemdar Bayramov, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Altay from the BARÜ Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya stated:

“This event we are holding today is a strong reflection of the ‘two states, one nation’ understanding in the scientific field. The deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan make themselves felt in every field today, as they have throughout history, and are further strengthened by concrete collaborations in the world of education and science. This valuable academic cooperation established between our university and Baku State University is also an indicator of our shared culture and strong belief in a common future. The fact that young researchers from different countries and cities meet at our University and make presentations will play an important role in carrying this strong bond into the future.”

In the panels titled “Technology and Human-Centered New Generation Library Services” and “Digital Transformation in the Field of Information and Records Management” held on the first day of the symposium, sector representatives evaluated current developments in information technology and their reflections on the field of librarianship. Representatives from Clarivate, SOBIAD, Wiley, Gemini, Hiperlink, AICOOR, Yordam Information Technologies, Novalib Technology, and Ninovus took part in the panel sessions.

In various sessions organized as part of the program, students from Türkiye and Azerbaijan presented their papers. Evaluations were made particularly on topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in education, preservation of digital archives, access to electronic resources, virtual museum experiences, open science practices, information security, and the digital literacy skills of university students.

In the closing session of the program, the outputs of the symposium were discussed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alemdar Bayramov and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Altay. The program concluded with a trip to Amasra, where the historical and natural beauties of Bartın were introduced to the participants.
