Two BARÜ Projects Receive Funding under TÜBİTAK 1001 Program

Two projects from Bartın University (BARÜ), funded under the TÜBİTAK-ARDEB 1001 Program, will carry out innovative research in the fields of sustainable construction technologies and energy efficiency.
Bartın University (BARÜ) continues to strengthen its achievements in scientific research through the innovative projects it develops. The results of the first call period of the 2026 “1001 – The Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program”, administered by the TÜBİTAK Directorate for Research Funding Programmes (ARDEB), have been announced. Two BARÜ projects bringing together researchers from different universities were found eligible for funding by TÜBİTAK. The projects, which will focus on construction materials, sustainable construction technologies, solar energy and energy efficiency, aim to develop innovative technologies that will contribute to environmental sustainability.
An Innovative Photovoltaic System to Be Developed for Energy-Efficient Buildings
The project entitled “Development of Concentrating Photovoltaic Systems Integrated with Phase-Change-Material-Enhanced Building Components”, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abid Ustaoğlu from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the BARÜ Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design, will focus on developing a system for energy-efficient and nearly zero-energy buildings. The proposed system is designed to store the excess heat generated by solar radiation in phase-change materials and subsequently use this stored heat to regulate indoor building temperatures.
The project team includes Prof. Dr. Osman Gençel, Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Erdoğmuş, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilal Kurşuncu and Asst. Prof. Dr. Volkan Akgül from BARÜ; Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sarı from Karadeniz Technical University; Prof. Dr. Bülent Yeşilata from Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University; and Prof. Dr. Canan Kandilli from Uşak University.
Next-Generation Construction Materials to Be Produced from Waste-Derived Raw Materials
The project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Yasin Durgun from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design aims to develop a new-generation construction material that can serve as an alternative to the natural resources extensively used in the construction sector. The project, entitled “Production of Biomass-Ash- and Blast-Furnace-Slag-Based Cold-Bonded One-Part Alkali-Activated Artificial Aggregates and Investigation of Their Concrete Performance”, seeks to contribute to environmental sustainability and promote the widespread adoption of low-carbon production models in the construction industry.
Adopting production approaches based on low energy consumption, the project will also involve Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hayrullah Sevinç from Kahramanmaraş İstiklal University as a researcher, as well as one doctoral student and one master’s student as scholarship recipients.
Noting that the projects funded by TÜBİTAK would further strengthen BARÜ’s research infrastructure and scientific productivity, Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya said: “We are very pleased that the high-quality scientific studies carried out at our university have received funding under the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Program.
