TÜBİTAK Supports BARÜ Project in the Field of Cybersecurity
7 Ağustos 2025
A project developed at Bartın University (BARÜ) and supported under the TÜBİTAK-ARDEB 1001 program aims to develop new methods against potential risks in the field of cybersecurity and ensure better protection of data.

The project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Alaybeyoğlu from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at BARÜ’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design has been selected for funding within the scope of the “1001-Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program” conducted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) Research Support Programs Directorate (ARDEB).

The project, titled “Accelerated Homomorphic Encryption-Based Security of IoT Data with a Federated Learning Application,” is being developed under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Erkay Savaş from Sabancı University. Through this project, effective protection methods will be developed in the field of data privacy and security. New encryption techniques will be implemented to address potential risks posed by quantum computers and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in protecting personal data. Two doctoral students will also contribute to the research.

Providing information about the project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alaybeyoğlu said:

“With the rapid increase in global cybercrime, federated learning methods developed in the field of data privacy and security provide better protection of personal data through the use of homomorphic encryption. Within the scope of this project, IoT data will be encrypted and a federated learning model will be developed. NTT and INTT operations will be carried out on next-generation FPGA cards. In addition, a data center based on homomorphic encryption will be created, and encryption processes related to cybersecurity will be accelerated to expand the impact of the project. We foresee that the work carried out within this project will make significant contributions to both academia and industry.”

BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Alaybeyoğlu and the project team for the TÜBİTAK-supported project, which will utilize innovative and comprehensive methods in the field of cybersecurity, and wished them continued success.
