Thousands of BARÜ Students Graduate in a Magnificent Ceremony

Bartın University (BARÜ) experienced the pride of graduating thousands of undergraduate and associate degree students in the 18th year of its establishment.
A magnificent graduation ceremony was held at Bartın University (BARÜ) for students who successfully completed their education in 9 faculties and 4 vocational schools. The 2025-2026 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony, attended by more than 10,000 people from all across Türkiye and abroad, was held with great enthusiasm at the Kutlubey Campus. Thousands of students, who received the reward of their hard work, experienced the pride of graduation, while their families shared in this meaningful joy.
The ceremony began with the traditional cortege march. Students took their places in the ceremony area accompanied by the applause of academics and families. During the colorful march, graduation excitement and pride were experienced together. Following a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem, the opening speeches began.
Rector Akkaya: “We are implementing projects that will carry our University into the future.”
BARU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya said, “Since the first day we took office, we have taken many important steps to move our University forward. By establishing Bartın Organized Industrial Zone Vocational School, we brought industry and our University together. In order to transform scientific production into added value, we established Bartın University Technopark and BARUTEK. With the aim of ensuring the sustainability of our University’s academic, scientific and social development, we launched the Bartın University Development and Support Foundation. In addition to our Student Life Center and Accessible Life Center, we established an Animal Life Center for our animal friends living on our campus. Within the scope of environmentally friendly practices, we put our electric vehicle charging stations into service. Soon, we will also provide a new living space with the arboretum, that is, a living tree museum, which we will establish opposite our library, the largest library in the region.”
“We are introducing new departments focused on the professions of the future.”
Rector Akkaya continued, “In order to prepare our students for the professions of the future, we have introduced new departments focused on digital transformation, artificial intelligence and information technologies. With our scientific research and qualified academic staff, we are included in world university rankings. We continue to rise every year in prestigious global ranking lists such as THE, ShanghaiRanking, EngiRank, GreenMetric and URAP. In addition, with the BİLİMFEST BARTIN organization, which will be held in Bartın for the first time, we will bring together thousands of science and technology enthusiasts. Within the scope of the 2026 Independence Mobilization under the motto ‘Independent Future, Healthy Generations,’ we reached thousands of students through many activities aimed at raising social awareness against substance addiction, technology addiction and other harmful habits. With 2025 being declared the ‘Year of the Family,’ we also carried out various social activities under the theme ‘Our Family, Our Future.’ We will always continue to support efforts that add value to our country.”
Rector Akkaya also offered advice to the graduates, saying: “Do not surrender your will to anyone or anything. Crown your success story with your family. Be the ones who write not the codes of the age, but the codes of the future. Let your roots be in Bartın and your branches reach the world. Do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Wherever you go in the world, never stop waving our beautiful Turkish language, the greatest fortress of your identity and our flag of voice.”
Deputy Aldatmaz: “You will be the voluntary ambassadors of Bartın University.”
Bartın Deputy Yusuf Ziya Aldatmaz said, “Today, we are all witnessing a very valuable achievement reached at the end of years filled with effort, patience, sacrifice and dreams. First of all, I sincerely congratulate our students who are experiencing the excitement of graduation today. With your graduation, you are experiencing the rightful pride of receiving the reward for your hard work. Bartın University is one of our most important values, contributing to the development of our city, producing science, keeping Bartın dynamic and shaping our future. Wherever you go, you will be the voluntary ambassadors of Bartın University. We will also be proud of you.”

Former Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç said, “We are once again together with you at a graduation ceremony of our Bartın University. Here, our esteemed academics prepared you for the future with great effort and care. You are the ones who will build the Century of Türkiye. Bartın University has become an educational institution that shows continuous development. Our University has added value to Bartın, while our young people have added color to the city. With students coming from all parts of Türkiye as well as from different countries, our University has opened Bartın to Türkiye and to the world. By working in cooperation with public institutions, industry and non-governmental organizations, it has become one of the driving institutions of the region. With these feelings and thoughts, I congratulate our young people who are experiencing the joy of graduation today.”

At the point it has reached today, Bartın University is a respected higher education institution at national and international levels, known for its achievements in education, science, research, culture and sports. The academic capacity of our University, which grows stronger each year, its qualified human resources and scientific studies give us confidence for the future. In addition, we are pleased to see that the strong bond established between our University and our city holds an important place in the development of Bartın. I believe that you, our young people, will achieve important successes as individuals who will contribute to the development of our country, add value to the society they live in and take responsibility wherever they are.”
Students with outstanding academic achievements were awarded with applause
At the ceremony, students who ranked highly with their academic achievements also received their awards on stage. Plaques and certificates of achievement were presented to students who ranked at the top with their grade point averages in BARU’s 9 faculties and 4 vocational schools. Esma Nur Aylı from the Department of Information and Records Management at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences experienced the pride of becoming the university’s top-ranking student for the 2025-2026 academic year. Ahu Uzun from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences ranked second, while Beyzanur Gümüş from the Department of Primary Mathematics Education at the Faculty of Education ranked third.
In associate degree programs, Esra Taymak from the Home Patient Care Program at Bartın Vocational School of Health Services became the top-ranking associate degree student. Sılanur Çubuk from the Accounting and Tax Practices Program at Bartın Vocational School ranked second, while Hüma Tuğçe Yücelli from the Furniture and Decoration Program at Bartın Vocational School ranked third.
Thousands of students celebrated graduation by throwing their caps into the sky
Following the presentation of awards by protocol members, university top-ranking student Esma Nur Aylı delivered a speech on behalf of the graduating students. As part of the program, the top-ranking undergraduate and associate degree students left a memory by engraving their names on the ceremonial log together with Rector Akkaya. Afterwards, the graduating students recited the traditional graduation oath together. The ceremony witnessed unforgettable moments as thousands of students threw their caps into the air following a countdown.
