Terror-Free Türkiye” Takes Center Stage in First Classes at BARU
21 Eylül 2026
The importance of social unity and solidarity, along with the role of young people in shaping the country's future, was highlighted during the first classes of the 2026–2027 academic year at Bartın University (BARU), which focused on the theme of “Terror-Free Türkiye.”
Under the leadership of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), “Terror-Free Türkiye” was designated as the theme of the opening classes for the 2026–2027 academic year. Accordingly, classes at Bartın University (BARU) addressed the importance of a terror-free Türkiye, emphasizing the preservation of national unity and solidarity, the strengthening of social peace, and the preparation of young people for a secure future.
BARU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya also visited students in their classrooms at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to deliver the first lecture of the new academic year.
Beginning his speech by emphasizing the principle of “one nation, one flag, one homeland, one state,” Rector Akkaya stated, “Preserving Türkiye’s unity and territorial integrity and completely eliminating terrorism from our country’s agenda are among our greatest aspirations. In a country where lasting peace has been established, young people can look to the future with confidence, while cities and regions can more effectively harness their potential. We envision a Türkiye where our people live in peace, where we draw strength from our differences, and where we devote our energy to science, education, production, and development. This is the future we all aspire to. The future lies with us, with you, our young people, and with a terror-free Türkiye.”
Highlighting the important role of universities, Rector Akkaya said, “Universities are places where students from different cities come together in the same classrooms to learn, create, and prepare for the future. In this respect, universities also foster a spirit of brotherhood and solidarity. At Bartın University, we attach great importance to educating our young people as individuals who possess the knowledge and competencies needed to build the Türkiye of tomorrow, respect differences, engage in research, and contribute to society through their work. We carry out all our activities with this responsibility in mind.”
Following his speech, Rector Akkaya answered students’ questions and expressed his best wishes to students, academic staff, and administrative personnel for a successful and productive new academic year.
