Bartın University (BARÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya met with representatives of local and national media on the occasion of 10 January Working Journalists’ Day.
A programme attended by local and national press representatives was organised at Bartın University (BARÜ) to mark 10 January Working Journalists’ Day. During the breakfast programme hosted by BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya, the day of press members who carry out their duties with great dedication was celebrated.
Speaking at the programme, Rector Akkaya said:
“On the anniversary of Law No. 212, which secures the rights of press workers, we celebrate the day of our journalists who pursue the truth and make the voice of our city heard. Shortly after I assumed office, we came together at our first vision meeting. Now, after approximately eight months, we are meeting again. On this meaningful occasion, I would like to share what we have accomplished and the steps we have taken during this period. Working with an understanding based on communication, consultation and precaution, we established the Animal Living Centre to sustainably meet the shelter and feeding needs of our campus animals. Within the scope of an employment-oriented education model, we launched the Bartın Organized Industrial Zone Vocational School through university–industry cooperation. In order to strengthen our scientific infrastructure, BARÜ Technopark has been officially established and will begin operations soon. In addition, in the University Monitoring and Evaluation General Report published by the Council of Higher Education, we ranked among the top 20 in nine different indicators.”
Emphasising the importance of projects that add value to the city and the region, Rector Akkaya continued:
“We are establishing an electric vehicle charging station at our Kutlubey Campus. By achieving a first in our region, we have opened an International Examination Centre authorised to administer VTest, TOEFL, Cambridge and Oxford examinations. We aim to complete our Central Laboratory building by the end of 2026. In the field of education, we have taken innovative decisions for our students. This spring semester, we are launching the Integrated Master’s Programme for the first time. We have also established the Bartın University Development and Support Foundation to increase our University’s institutional capacity, provide scholarship opportunities for our students and support our academics. Furthermore, we aim to complete the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Mosque project located on our Kutlubey Campus as soon as possible and bring it to our University and city.”
Responding to questions from members of the press, Rector Akkaya stated that efforts supporting students’ academic and social development would continue to increase. The programme concluded with a commemorative group photograph.
