A programme attended by representatives of local and national media was organised at Bartın University (BARÜ) on the occasion of 24 July Journalists and Press Day. During the breakfast programme hosted by BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya, the Journalists and Press Day of press members, who carry out their duties with great dedication to ensure that the public is informed accurately, impartially and promptly, was celebrated.
Making an assessment of national and international achievements at the beginning of the programme, Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya said, “First of all, I would like to celebrate the Journalists and Press Day of our press members, whom we regard as important stakeholders in sharing our University’s academic, scientific and social contributions with the public. As Bartın University, we continue to achieve new successes every day with our scientific productivity and our approach to quality education. Recently, 254 student projects of ours were entitled to receive support from TÜBİTAK. We rank high in the world’s prestigious higher education rankings such as THE, ShanghaiRanking, EngiRank, GreenMetric and URAP. Each of these achievements is an indication of the importance we attach to project development, scientific research and publication production. In addition, we are preparing to establish a radio station in order to bring the academic, scientific, cultural and social activities carried out at our University to wider audiences.”
Referring also to the goals for the upcoming period, Rector Akkaya stated, “Following the announcement of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) results, we have started our efforts for prospective students. We are looking forward with excitement to welcoming the students who will join us in the new academic term. We act with a student-friendly, animal-friendly and sports-friendly campus approach. This year, we became entitled to receive the ‘Sports-Friendly Campus’ title, which was granted to only 29 higher education institutions. In addition, in line with the Council of Higher Education’s innovative policies in higher education, we are preparing our University for the future through our new artificial intelligence-focused programmes and education models. At this point, my greatest dream is to bring a Faculty of Foreign Languages and Tourism to Amasra. As a first step, we will admit students this year to our Department of Tourism Management, which has not admitted students for a long time. We also want to further develop our Kurucaşile Campus.”
Having a conversation with members of the press, Rector Akkaya answered journalists’ questions after making assessments on the education, research and social contribution activities carried out at BARÜ.
The programme concluded with a commemorative photograph taken to mark the day.
