Individuals with special needs and their families gathered at BARÜ

Bartın University (BARÜ) brought together individuals with special needs and their families for various activities during the "Barrier-Free Breath: Family Year Relaxation and Sharing Camp" organized as part of the "Year of the Family."
Following the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of the Family" at Bartın University (BARÜ), efforts to contribute to socio-cultural development by increasing awareness of strengthening the family continue. In this regard, the "Barrier-Free Breath: Family Year Relaxation and Sharing Camp" was recently organized under the coordination of the BARÜ Unit for Students with Disabilities, in cooperation with the Bartın Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, Bartın Provincial Directorate of Health, Bartın Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, BARÜ Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center, and the Faculty of Sports Sciences.
In the activity program held at the BARÜ Barrier-Free Living Area, seminars were first given by relevant experts for individuals with special needs and their families. From the Bartın Provincial Directorate of Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Berat Merih Yetim emphasized the importance of family solidarity in the seminar titled “The Power of the Family: Stronger Together Against Challenges.” From BARÜ, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Yıldırım explained the contribution of physical activity to the quality of life of individuals with special needs with her presentation titled “The Power of Movement: Activity and Health in Individuals with Disabilities.”
As part of the program, which continued throughout the day with colorful events, therapeutic recreation activities, painting, music, and yoga sessions were held. In addition, various practices were carried out to strengthen family bonds, expand social networks, and allow families to spend enjoyable time together.
The program was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Selçuk Gümüş, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Dr. Şuayip Yüzbaşı, and Bartın Provincial Director of Family and Social Services Yavuz Korkmaz.
