18 Mart 2026
At an event held at Bartın University (BARÜ), the process from the opening of the Gallipoli front to the March 18 Çanakkale Victory was examined in terms of its military and strategic dimensions.

Bartın University (BARÜ) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History, organized an event on the 111th anniversary of the March 18 Çanakkale Victory. In the conference titled “The Opening of the Gallipoli Front and the March 18 Naval Victory,” the historical background and consequences of the Gallipoli Campaign were comprehensively evaluated.

The online event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Yenal Ünal from the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, while Res. Asst. Buğra Terzi from the Department of History at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University participated as the speaker.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ünal stated that they aimed to establish a strong bridge of awareness between the past and the future by addressing the meaning, significance, and historical depth of the Gallipoli Campaign from multiple perspectives.
In his presentation, Res. Asst. Terzi discussed the strategic, military, and historical dimensions of this epic struggle. Emphasizing the geopolitical importance of the Gallipoli front, Terzi noted that the weakening of the Ottoman Empire, particularly after the Balkan Wars, accelerated its search for allies. He also highlighted the decisive role of the reforms carried out under the leadership of Enver Pasha and the close relations established with Germany.

Pointing out that the Gallipoli Campaign was a multifaceted front involving both naval and land operations, Terzi explained that the Allied Powers initially attempted to pass through the Dardanelles but, after failing in the naval campaign, shifted to land operations. The presentation also covered key turning points of the war, emphasizing the critical role of the Nusret minelayer in securing the March 18 Çanakkale Victory.

The event concluded with a Q&A session.
