Environmentally friendly paper production will be supported by BARÜ's project

With Bartın University's (BARÜ) project supported by TÜBİTAK, nature-friendly paper production will be encouraged while contributing to a sustainable future.
Bartın University (BARÜ) has added a new one to its environmentally friendly and sustainability-oriented scientific studies. Most recently, the project prepared under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezgin Koray Gülsoy from the Bartın Faculty of Forestry has been entitled to receive support within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program. With the project titled “Use of Green Solvents for Sustainable Fiber and Lignin Production: A Biomass-Based Approach,” an eco-friendly alternative will be offered to traditional paper production processes that cause major environmental problems today.
Within the scope of the project, pulp and lignin will be produced using natural solvents obtained from biomasses such as Scots pine, trembling aspen, and wheat straw. Thus, instead of the petroleum-derived chemicals common in traditional paper production, a sustainable production process will be developed without harming nature by using biodegradable, non-toxic products and low-cost solvents.
Providing information about the project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülsoy said, “In this study, it is aimed to contribute to both the scientific literature and the green industries of the future by combining eco-friendly solvents with sustainable production techniques. Evaluating biomass resources with smart and sustainable methods is of great importance in terms of leaving a more livable environment for future generations.”
BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezgin Koray Gülsoy for his project on environmentally sensitive and sustainable production and wished him success in his studies.
