27 Şubat 2026
At a workshop organized at Bartın University (BARÜ), digital fraud methods, regional risks, and awareness-raising training activities were comprehensively evaluated.

Hosted by Bartın University (BARÜ), a workshop titled “Cybersecurity from Regional and National Perspectives: Current Situation, Risks, and Solution Proposals” was held. The event, organized in collaboration with the Bartın Provincial Police Department, Bartın Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Bartın Provincial Directorate of National Education, Sakarya University, the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization (KOSGEB), addressed digitalization and cyber threats from a multidimensional perspective.

Delivering the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Handan Ucun Özel, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design, stated:

“The digital age offers us significant advantages; however, it also places us in an environment that contains various risks. In today’s world, where technological developments are advancing at a dizzying pace, data security has become one of the most strategic resources. At this point, cybersecurity is no longer a choice but a necessity. I believe that this workshop will contribute to strengthening a secure digital infrastructure in our region by combining academic knowledge with industry and the public sector.”

BARÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yafes Yıldız emphasized:

“We carry out many of our daily activities—ranging from education and healthcare to banking and public services—through digital platforms. This transformation necessitates that both institutions and individuals become more aware and better prepared in the digital world. Ensuring the protection of data, the secure functioning of systems, and the resilience of critical infrastructures against attacks is of great importance. Cybersecurity is directly related to the security and future of our country.”

Within the scope of the workshop, the first session titled “National and Regional Cybersecurity: Current Situation and Opportunities” was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüp Burak Ceyhan from the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design at BARÜ. Speakers included Gökhan Akdağoğlu, Bartın Provincial Director of KOSGEB; Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özçelik from the Department of Cybersecurity Engineering at Sakarya University; and Dr. Şahin Baş, Coordinator of the Bartın Investment Support Office at BAKKA.
