BARU’s Project to Investigate the Anti-Cancer Effects of Celery Seeds

A TÜBİTAK-supported project at Bartın University (BARU) will investigate the potential effects of celery seed in combination with different foods on cancer cells.

The project is led by Research Assistant Sena Davran Bulut from the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science, with the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Hasan Ufuk Çelebioğlu and Prof. Hacı Ali Döndaş from Çukurova University Faculty of Pharmacy. It has been awarded support under TÜBİTAK’s 1002-A Rapid Support Program.

Entitled “Pharmabiotic Potential of Synbiotic Combinations of Celery Seed Extract and Apigenin with Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG Probiotic Bacteria on Colorectal Cancer”, the project examines formulations combining plant extracts and phenolic compounds with probiotics known for their positive effects on human health. The study will focus on exploring the therapeutic effects of these synbiotic formulations on colorectal cancer.

Employing innovative and comprehensive methods, the project will also benefit from the contributions of Assoc. Prof. Yavuz Erden from BARU’s Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and Prof. Naciye Yaktubay Döndaş from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine.
