BARÜ’s Cooling System for Engineering Material Testing Patented
13 Ekim 2026
A cooling system developed at Bartın University (BARÜ) to test the durability of engineering materials at extremely low temperatures has been granted a patent by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).
Bartın University (BARÜ) has added another invention to its portfolio of patents through its work in scientific research and innovative technology. The invention, titled “Controlled Cooling System for a Tribotest Chamber to Cryogenic Temperatures,” developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Küçük and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sabri Gök from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design, has been granted a patent by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).
The Behaviour of Engineering Materials at Low Temperatures Can Be Examined
The innovative system developed enables the wear behaviour of engineering materials to be determined in a controlled environment at temperatures ranging from below zero to cryogenic levels (-150°C). Thanks to the system, the ambient temperature can be controlled and reduced to as low as -150°C. The invention provides an important infrastructure for investigating the wear behaviour of all types of engineering materials under low-temperature and cryogenic conditions, evaluating material performance, and conducting scientific studies related to these conditions.
The System Is a First in Türkiye for Tribological Studies
The controlled cooling system enables researchers to manage the temperature of the experimental environment under specific conditions. With this cooling system, a first has been achieved in Türkiye in the field of tribological studies, offering researchers the opportunity to examine the friction and wear behaviour of materials at low temperatures. In this respect, the invention is expected to contribute to academic and technological research.
BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya stated that they attach importance to transforming scientific knowledge into technology and added value. He congratulated Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sabri Gök and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Küçük on their patented invention.
