BARÜ Receives “Sports-Friendly Campus” Award from CoHE

Bartın University’s (BARÜ) “Sports-Friendly Campus” award was presented to Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya by the President of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.
Within the scope of the “Sports-Friendly Campus Project” launched by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), Bartın University’s (BARÜ) Kutlubey Campus was deemed worthy of the “Sports-Friendly Campus” designation. In the project, which aims to encourage physical activity in campus life and promote a culture of healthy living, universities from across Türkiye were evaluated according to 45 different criteria.
Following the evaluations, an award ceremony was held at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University for the universities entitled to receive the “Sports-Friendly Campus” designation. BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya and BARÜ Sports-Friendly Campus Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Cemal Özman also attended the ceremony, which was held with the participation of CoHE President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.
Speaking at the program, CoHE President Özvar said, “We include many areas in the evaluation process, from sports infrastructure and the activities of student clubs to practices supporting mental health, efforts to combat addiction, accessibility practices and the preservation of traditional sports. This year, 60 campuses from 56 universities applied, and the applications were evaluated by 46 academics who are experts in their fields. As a result of the evaluation, 31 campuses from 30 universities were entitled to receive the Sports-Friendly Campus designation. Thus, as of today, 79 campuses of 77 universities in our country hold the Sports-Friendly Campus designation.”
Following the speech, the “Sports-Friendly Campus” award was presented to Rector Akkaya by CoHE President Özvar. Nevşehir Governor Hüseyin Kök, who also attended the ceremony, congratulated Rector Akkaya and wished him success in his work. With this achievement, BARÜ once again certified its campus approach focused on sports and healthy living. Rector Akkaya stated that they would continue to increase the diversity of sports activities at BARÜ and promote a culture of healthy living in every area of the campus, and expressed his thanks to CoHE President Özvar.
