BARÜ Strengthens Academic Collaborations at ASAS 2026 in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bartın University (BARÜ) signed the Sarajevo Higher Education Declaration at the 2nd International Anatolian Academic Studies Symposium (ASAS 2026) held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of developing academic collaborations with universities from different countries.
Bartın University (BARÜ) participated in the 2nd International Anatolian Academic Studies Symposium (ASAS 2026), organized in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Center for International Strategic Research (USAR), of which it is a stakeholder. The symposium was hosted by the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) under the theme “The Balkans in a Changing World: Multidimensional Approaches and Interdisciplinary Perspectives.” BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya and Advisor to the Rector Assist. Prof. Dr. Özkan Avcı attended the symposium and held important meetings aimed at developing international collaborations.
Sarajevo Higher Education Declaration Signed
The “International Rectors’ Meeting” was held as part of ASAS 2026, which brought together academics, researchers, and students from different fields of science. Rector Akkaya, who attended the program, delivered a presentation covering BARÜ’s national and international achievements through its high-quality work, its internationalization goals, and its specialization projects. Following the presentation, the “Sarajevo Higher Education Declaration” was signed with the aim of developing academic collaborations among universities, increasing joint scientific studies, and establishing lasting collaborations in the field of higher education.
Joint Projects and Research Infrastructures to Be Developed
The Declaration aims to develop joint projects to transform scientific knowledge into technological added value and social benefit. Within this scope, efforts will be carried out to establish research centers, laboratories, incubation structures, and Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs). In addition, academic mobility opportunities will be increased so that researchers and academics can experience the shared historical and cultural heritage on site.
Alongside BARÜ, the Sarajevo Higher Education Declaration was signed by Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Artvin Çoruh University, Balıkesir University, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Gazi University, Gaziantep University, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Konya Technical University, Mardin Artuklu University, Necmettin Erbakan University, OSTİM Technical University, Pamukkale University, Sinop University, Şırnak University, and Tarsus University from Türkiye, as well as the International University of Sarajevo, International Islamic University Malaysia, Bahria University, Samarkand State University, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Vilnius University, the Union of Academics and Writers of Islamic Countries, and representatives of USAR from different countries.

Rector Akkaya stated that ASAS 2026 made a significant contribution to the development of academic and scientific collaborations by bringing together higher education institutions from different countries. He noted that the Sarajevo Higher Education Declaration, signed in line with BARÜ’s internationalization goals, would also increase joint activities among universities.
Rector Akkaya also attended the program held in Bosnia and Herzegovina to mark Victory Day on August 30. At the program held at the Embassy, the 104th anniversary of the August 30 Victory, one of the important milestones of Türkiye’s national struggle, was commemorated.
