BARÜ Science Café Event Introduces Young People to the Professions of the Future
9 Temmuz 2026
At the Science Café event organized by Bartın University (BARÜ), participants explored the impact of digital transformation and artificial intelligence on career choices, emerging professions of the future, and the competencies that will guide young people in their career planning.
Coordinated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Science Café events organized by the Bartın University (BARÜ) Office of Science Communication have begun bringing together young people during the university preference period under the theme "Professions of the Future." In this context, the first event, titled "Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: What Awaits Us in Future Career Choices?", was held at the Kozcağız Municipality Ceremony Square. The event attracted significant participation from international students studying at BARÜ as part of the Turkish Summer School organized by the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE), as well as prospective university students and their families.
Mayor Karaman: "The Guidance of Our Academics Is Essential for Making the Right Career Choice"
Delivering the opening remarks, Kozcağız Mayor Mustafa Karaman said, "We are delighted that Bartın University chose Kozcağız to organize an event focusing on the professions of the future and university preferences. Let us all listen carefully to today's presentations so that we can better support our children throughout the university preference process. I especially encourage parents to approach this period with great care. As young people take their first steps into adult life, they may have different perspectives when making their choices. This is a crucial period because they are selecting a profession they may pursue for many years. I would like to thank our academics in advance for sharing their valuable knowledge."
Rector Akkaya: "We Are Bringing the Professions of the Future to Our University"
BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya stated, "Under the leadership of the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, the initiative launched with the vision that 'Science is Everywhere' aims to share the knowledge produced at universities with society while raising public awareness. Today, we are here in Kozcağız as part of this initiative. During this event, we will discuss the professions of the future in fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, healthcare, environmental sciences, and sustainability. As Bartın University, we are proud to introduce academic programs designed for the professions of the future. Through our Artificial Intelligence Operator, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Telehealth Technician, and Smart Infrastructure Technician programs, we clearly demonstrate the importance we attach to future-oriented careers. In the coming years, we will continue introducing new academic programs to Bartın and our University, enabling more individuals to receive education in these emerging fields. On this occasion, I would also like to thank the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, for institutionalizing the Science Café initiative."
Following the opening speeches, the panel discussion was moderated by Lecturer Burak Ceylan from the Communication Coordination Office. The guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Ramazan Yılmaz from the Department of Computer Technology and Information Systems, Faculty of Science, who has been recognized among the World's Most Influential Scientists.
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Explained How Artificial Intelligence Systems Work
Prof. Dr. Ramazan Yılmaz noted that, contrary to common belief, artificial intelligence is not a new technology and that its historical development spans several decades. He emphasized that the widespread adoption of generative artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT has significantly accelerated the digital transformation process. "Artificial intelligence operates on data. The content we share, the searches we make, the responses we provide, and our interactions in digital environments continuously feed these systems. The collected data are analyzed to deliver personalized content and recommendations tailored to individuals' interests," he said.
"In the Future Workplace, the Real Difference Will Be Made by Those Who Use Artificial Intelligence"
Sharing his views on the professions of future, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz stated, "While artificial intelligence will transform certain professions, it will also create numerous new career opportunities. The World Economic Forum predicts that millions of new jobs will emerge by 2030. Occupations that require direct human interaction—particularly in agriculture, livestock farming, healthcare, midwifery, and family counseling—will continue to be important and may become even more valuable. Individuals who adopt an interdisciplinary approach and are able to integrate artificial intelligence into fields such as healthcare, sports, engineering, and the social sciences will have a significant advantage. Ultimately, the real difference will be between those who use artificial intelligence and those who do not."
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
