BARÜ Ranks Among the Top 500 Worldwide in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings

Bartın University (BARÜ) has entered the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026 for the first time, achieving a position in the 401–500 band.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026, published by one of the world’s most well-known higher education ranking organizations, have been announced. Designed to assess universities’ contributions to interdisciplinary science and the sustainability of their work, the ranking has included Bartın University (BARÜ) for the first time.
In the ranking, which aims to reveal institutions’ true potential in interdisciplinary science, BARÜ achieved a significant success by placing in the 401–500 band. Among 911 institutions evaluated from 94 countries, BARÜ ranked 33rd in Türkiye, sharing this position with seven other universities among 93 universities nationwide. Among public universities, BARÜ shared 22nd place with five other universities.
Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya expressed his pride in BARÜ’s achievement in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, stating: “As Bartın University, it is highly meaningful for us to be ranked in the 401–500 band in our first appearance in this ranking. This result is a reflection of dedicated efforts, the contributions made to our research culture, and our commitment to interdisciplinary approaches. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this success. We will continue to support interdisciplinary scientific production, enhance our sustainable research ecosystem, and increase our international visibility. I would also like to express my gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the members of the Council for their encouragement and support in promoting universities’ presence in international rankings.”
The THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings evaluate institutions based on a range of performance indicators, including research funding, governance of academic processes, infrastructure capacity, research quality, publication performance, and institutional reputation.
