BARÜ Ranked Among Europe’s Best Universities in Two Engineering Fields in EngiRank 2025

Bartın University (BARÜ) ranked as the third-best university in Türkiye in the field of Civil Engineering in the EngiRank 2025 rankings and also achieved significant success with its performance in Materials Engineering.

The results of the EngiRank European Ranking of Engineering Programmes 2025, one of Europe’s most prestigious ranking organisations in the fields of engineering and technology, have been announced. For the first time this year, Turkish higher education institutions were included in the evaluation, and Bartın University (BARÜ) was listed among Europe’s best universities in two engineering fields. In the EngiRank 2025 rankings, which assessed 300 higher education institutions from 36 countries within the European Higher Education Area, BARÜ entered the list in the fields of Civil Engineering and Materials Engineering.

Third-Best University in Türkiye in the Field of Civil Engineering

According to EngiRank 2025 data, BARÜ achieved a notable success by ranking 72nd in Europe among 181 universities in the field of Civil Engineering. Among the 16 higher education institutions from Türkiye included in the ranking for Civil Engineering, BARÜ became the third-best university in the country, following Istanbul Technical University and Yıldız Technical University.

Significant Achievement Also in the Field of Materials Engineering

BARÜ continued its success in EngiRank 2025 in the field of Materials Engineering. The University ranked 182nd among 240 universities in Europe and placed 14th among 24 universities in Türkiye. With this achievement, BARÜ once again demonstrated the international quality of its engineering education.

The EngiRank 2025 ranking was prepared based on performance indicators covering the 2020–2024 period. The ranking methodology considered strategic criteria such as academic publication and citation performance, research and innovation outputs, participation in European Research Council projects, Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe activities, accreditations in engineering fields, patent numbers and industry collaborations, and contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Expressing his satisfaction at being included in a respected international ranking in engineering, BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya said:

“Thanks to the quality of our academic publications, our visibility in international projects, and the accreditation processes of our engineering programmes, we have succeeded in being included in another important ranking. By ranking among Europe’s best higher education institutions in two engineering fields, we continue to increase our international visibility and success.
