BARÜ Increases Its International Visibility and Academic Impact

According to Web of Science and Scopus data, Bartın University (BARÜ) has demonstrated a significant rise in academic performance over the last three years by increasing both its publication and citation numbers.
Bartın University (BARÜ) has once again demonstrated its academic productivity through internationally refereed and high-impact publications indexed in Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus, which include thousands of journals from different countries around the world. According to the announced data, BARÜ recorded steady growth in both publication output and citation performance during the 2023–2025 period.
Within the scope of all Web of Science indexes (SCI, SSCI, A&HCI, ESCI, CPCI-S, CPCI-SSH, BKCI-S, BKCI-SSH), the total number of publications increased from 426 in 2023 to 555 in 2024 and reached 579 in 2025. The total number of publications in Scopus-indexed journals was announced as 490 in 2023, 605 in 2024 and 668 in 2025.
Web of Science Publications Increased by 35.9% Over the Last Three Years
According to Web of Science data, BARÜ recorded an increase of 153 publications between 2023 and 2025, corresponding to approximately 35.9% growth. In the core indexes (SCI, SSCI, A&HCI), publication numbers rose from 333 in 2023 to 414 in 2024 and 479 in 2025. As of 2025, this represented an increase of 146 publications compared to 2023, corresponding to approximately 43.8% growth.
The annual number of publications per academic staff member was calculated as 0.911 in 2023, 1.012 in 2024 and 1.086 in 2025, indicating an increase of 0.175 compared to 2023. In terms of quartile distributions reflecting journal quality, the proportion of publications in Q1 journals was 41.61% in 2023, 37.22% in 2024 and 42.24% in 2025.
BARÜ Demonstrated Its Scientific Impact Through Citation Performance
BARÜ’s total citation count across all WoS indexes increased from 9,016 in 2023 to 10,656 in 2024 and 12,559 in 2025, marking an increase of 3,543 citations over the three-year period. In the WoS core indexes (SCI, SSCI, A&HCI), total citations rose from 8,424 in 2023 to 9,819 in 2024 and reached 11,613 in 2025, reflecting an increase of 3,189 citations.
Scopus Data Showed a 36.3% Increase in Publications Over Three Years
Indicators based on the Scopus database revealed a similar upward trend. The total number of publications in Scopus-indexed journals increased from 490 in 2023 to 605 in 2024 and 668 in 2025, corresponding to a 36.3% rise over the last three years.
The annual number of Scopus-indexed publications per academic staff member increased from 1.361 in 2023 to 1.501 in 2024 and 1.515 in 2025. The proportion of publications in Q1 journals was calculated as 52.20% in 2023, 49.60% in 2024 and 59.10% in 2025.
A significant increase was also observed in citation numbers within Scopus. Total citations rose from 9,950 in 2023 to 12,390 in 2024 and reached 15,900 in 2025, representing an increase of 5,950 citations over the three-year period. These results demonstrate that BARÜ continues to increase its visibility and scientific impact in international indexes while maintaining sustainable development in research and publication performance.

Evaluating the academic performance results, BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya stated:
“In recent years, there has been a steady upward trend in Web of Science and Scopus publication and citation indicators. This rising trend points to sustainable development in our University’s academic production capacity. We will continue our efforts with determination to further enhance our academic productivity and scientific publication performance. I would like to thank our academics whose high-quality work contributed to this success.”
Rector Akkaya also noted that these publication and citation data are based on the most up-to-date figures obtained from the Web of Science and Scopus databases as of 14 January 2026, and emphasised that publication and citation numbers for 2025 may increase in the coming period as indexing processes continue.
