BARÜ Academic Wins Third Place in Türkiye at “The Story of Waste: Zero Waste Art Competition”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Eyüpoğlu from the Department of Fine Arts Education at the Faculty of Education, Bartın University (BARÜ), won third place in Türkiye with his innovative work at “The Story of Waste: Zero Waste Art Competition.”
“The Story of Waste: Zero Waste Art Competition” was organized in cooperation with the Zero Waste Foundation and United Nations Türkiye as part of the “Zero Waste Movement” carried out under the leadership of Emine Erdoğan, Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation. In the competition, which aimed to raise awareness of sustainability and the environment, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Eyüpoğlu from the Department of Fine Arts Education at the Faculty of Education, Bartın University (BARÜ), achieved significant success. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüpoğlu won the third-place award in the “Metal Waste” category with his work titled “Tehlikeli Tür” (“Dangerous Species”), in which waste materials were brought back to life through an artistic perspective.

The competition, which attracted broad participation from across Türkiye, presented awards in six different categories: plastic, glass, metal, paper, textile and wood waste. Bringing together the transformative power of art and environmental awareness, the organization evaluated the works according to the criteria of originality, aesthetic value, innovative use of materials and the strength of their environmental message. Having “Zero Waste Certificates” for its campuses, BARÜ added another achievement to its efforts to promote a culture of sustainable living.
BARÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akkaya congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Eyüpoğlu, who won the third-place award in the competition contributing to the understanding of zero waste and sustainability through art, and wished him continued success in his work.
